57: Spotted Hyenas (ft: Moxie from Your Brain on Facts)

CritterCast family- it’s Episode 57 and we’ve got a fun one in store for you! But first we want to address what’s going on in the world. The #BlackLivesMatter movement is in the spotlight once more and we’re offering complete support. It would be irresponsible not to use our platform to help elevate the stories and shows of black and other POC creators. So that’s what we do, but in true CritterCast form.

We also have a full 1 hour episode ALL about Spotted Hyenas with a very special guest host Moxie, the host and author of Your Brain On Facts! Moxie shares with us the fascinating and disturbing world of spotted hyena anatomy and mating. We learn about their complicated social structure and why, yet again, Disney got it wrong.

WANT TO CHECK OUT OUR PROMOTED PODCASTS? This week we’re featuring two awesome shows by BPOC! First check out Book of Lies and then hop on over and give The Root of Science a listen too!

56: Ring-Tailed Lemurs

For Episode 56 we decided to invite special Jr. Guest Host Jake on to discuss the fluffiest of lemurs: the Ring Tailed Lemur. It’s a pretty old school episode with tangents, completely unscripted humor, and old fashion fun facts about one of our favorite critters. We did have some technical difficulties this episode and we’re sorry we couldn’t do more to clear up the audio. But we hope you’ll enjoy!

48: Reindeer (Again?)

48: Reindeer (Again?)

Hey CritterCast fam! So it’s a little bit of a cheat to call this Episode 48 because technically it’s not a BRAND new episode. It was originally released as Episode 24 last December. But we did make some edits and even wrote a brand new intro specifically for it. So we’re calling it 48. This episode, all about reindeer, is now FUN FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY! Excuse the differing audio quality, as the audio from 2018 was recorded with a different mic and different set up. We’ve grown and learned a lot which is cool to hear. Happy Holidays!

46: Harpy Eagles

46: Harpy Eagles

Cassie and Koreena are back at it again with another episode, episode 46 to be exact! This week we’re taking back to the skies to find out the cold, hard facts about Harpy Eagles. You may never have seen one of these massive Amazonian birds, but we bet you’ve seen some of the characters inspired by them. If you saw one you might run away terrified, but let’s demystify them and find out just what makes those big wings flap!

45: Mexican Mole Lizards

45: Mexican Mole Lizards

We’re so excited to present our CritterCast fam with Episode 45 of CritterCast!! This episode we’re learning all about an animal that we really had never heard of until we started researching: the Mexican Mole Lizard. Now this little weirdo looks like a cross between a worm and a snake but it’s neither. To find out all the details on this underground, slithering, cutie listen in to episode 45.

This episode also includes a promo from our friends at Just the Zoo of Us, another animal-themed podcast that you can find here: https://www.justthezooofus.com/

36: Arapaimas

36: Arapaimas

Welcome back to CritterCast for Episode 36. If you’ve never heard of an Arapaima chances are you don’t watch Animal Planet or Discovery Channel because this mysterious fish is the only fish to ever elude host Jeremy Wade on River Monsters. Cassie was inspired to teach us all about this massively large and massively impressive fish because she thinks that giant fish are ultra cool, and after listening to Episode 36 we think you might agree! Give it a chance and let us know what you find most fascinating about Arapaimas!

What’s green, squishy, and capable of taking down predators with toxic halitosis? Tobacco Hornworms, that’s who! These fascinating caterpillars are commonly used as model organisms and delicious snacks for captive reptiles. But why are their booties so active and what do they pupate into? Find out in Episode 33 of CritterCast with Cassie and Koreena featuring our brand new theme song!

32: Manatees

Did you know that Manatees, unlike other marine mammals, don’t have blowholes? Or did you know that manatees aren’t freshwater OR saltwater animals? Listen to episode 32, all about the seacows, and you will be able to spread all the manatee knowledge. This week we chat about Koreena’s childhood manatee, Cassie’s continued inability to pronounce latin words, and Koreena’s strange obsession with Veggie Tales.

29: Pangolins

29: Pangolins

CritterCast fam! You know that on CritterCast, we’re constantly questioning the way we classify animals…because sometimes it makes no sense. This week we’re talking about an animal that really doesn’t fit in anywhere. If you’ve ever seen a picture of a Pangolin, you’ve probably seen the photo of them looking like they timidly would like to ask you a question. Today we boldly ask: WHAT ARE YOU PANGOLINS? What are you and who are you related to?? Find out in Episode 29 of CritterCast!
