59: Box Turtles

59: Box Turtles

We’re back! It’s Episode 59 and after our unplanned hiatus, we are so excited to be back and better than ever with an entertaining and fact-filled episode all about box turtles! We talk about the basics of what makes a box turtle a box turtle, where their from, how they breed, what dangers they face in their native environments, and how to responsibly acquire and care for one as a pet. Please note, this episode is not intended to be a full care guide especially because care varies between different species of box turtles. We’re working on a care sheet for our website, but in the meantime let this episode serve as a way to dip your toes in the water!

Also! We can’t believe we didn’t have the full turtle vs. tortoise vs. terrapin discussion. But don’t worry! That will be a topic across our social media channels over the next few weeks.

Episode 55 is a little later than we’d hoped, but it’s here and it’s a super fun episode we know will make up for the lost time. This week we’re calling on a guest host and resident “expert” (as usual, neither of your regular hosts claim expertise on the subject). We’re talking the tiniest but mightiest of sea birds: the Storm Petral! Our guest host Amy is a grad student studying sea birds and spends time on a remote island studying these among other species. She teaches your hosts Cassie and Koreena all about these fascinating little birds that you’ve probably never heard of but will love after listening to this episode!

54: Rough Green Snakes

54: Rough Green Snakes

We’re baaaaaaaack! It’s Episode 54 and despite the chaos that coronavirus has thrown at us, we’re bringing you a short and sweet episode about the smallest, cutiest snakes on the block (of the south-eastern United States at least). We’re talking Rough Green Snakes in this episode, plus we take some time to explain our absence and tell you some hilarious stories about our struggles of #QuarantiningwithCritters and we want to hear YOUR stories too!

50: Koalas (and how we can help them)

Hello CritterCast friends and family! It’s EPISODE 50 (can you believe it?) and Cassie and Koreena are back with a full episode. This one is jam packed. We knew we wanted to do something special and since Australia has been struggling with some pretty nasty bush fires for a few weeks, it only seemed right to talk about Koalas.

But in true CritterCast fashion, we had to dive deep to find out really what the threat is to Australian wildlife and what are responsible ways we can help. See the new tab on our website with some of the organizations we feel best about donating to. This episode also features a promo from our friends at the Hidden Wings and Bloodlust Podcast!

44: Goblin Sharks

44: Goblin Sharks

It’s finally SPOOKTOBER! What better month to do an episode on Goblin Sharks? The spookiness is right there in the name! Come along with us as we dive into the deep, deep world of these fascinating swimmers. We know they’re sharks, but are they your typical sharks? Of course not! We’re celebrating Halloween in the only way we know how: learning about a cool new critter!

41: Blue Tongue Skinks (Tiliqua Scincoides Intermedia)

So we went to the San Jose Reptile Show and Cassie realized we had NEVER done an episode on Blue Tongue Skinks? How? How did we get 41 episodes into this podcast and never touch on one of our FAVORITE reptiles? This episode we remedy that and give you a quick peak into the world of the chillest, chonkiest of lizards. Though they may seem snake-like to the average onlooker, Blue Tongue Skinks are definitely lizards. Take that taxonomy!

39: Guinea Pigs (Cavies)

Episode 39 is live! Sorry for the short delay in getting this episode out, but we promise it’s worth it!! This episode we’re talking about adorable little rodents known as Guinea Pigs. Their name is a complete and total misnomer, since they’re not from Guinea and they’re definitely not related to pigs at all. But they ARE absolutely adorable little superheroes, in many ways. Some of our facts are gross, some a little sad, but all of them are wacky, weird, and wonderful!

30: Gulls

30: Gulls

We’re back with Episode 30! Thank you to our listeners who sent us kind thoughts during our delay. We lost our foster kittens very tragically and needed to take some time. But luckily we’re back at it with those #critterfacts! This week we’re talking about Gulls and why they are #goals when it comes to a carefree lifestyle. We also talk a little about Koreena’s childhood BFF…spoiler alert…it’s a seagull!

27: Pallas’s Cats (ft. Jake)

27: Pallas’s Cats (ft. Jake)

In this very special, family friendly episode, our guest host Jake helps us learn about one of the most mysterious wild cats around: The Pallas’s (or Manul) cat. Tiny little wild cats with the most floof power of any wild cat, they dwell in arid environments in East and Central Asia. Find out how these elf-like cats are capturing the hearts of humans and making their way quickly into our pop culture!

23: Bees (pt. 1)

Honey, whatcha waiting for? Listen to Episode 24!! … Well, Episode 23. That doesn’t rhyme, though, so. In this delicious episode, Koreena and Cassie learn about our favorite bee – honeybees! They pollinate crops! They dance directions! They might help us cure HIV and rheumatoid arthritis! They travel in time! Well… kinda. You’ll just have to listen to find out how. All this and more in Save the Bees, Part 1!
